CHAINED

Link 1:

Rain poured heavily at the thick forest somewhere in 18th century Japan. Two silhouettes stood in the middle of the forest, a man and a woman.
“You have to understand, I have to do this!” the woman said.
“I know, but I—“ the man replied.

A big bright light shines on the woman’s side, and then the man disappeared. The woman holds a book near her heart, embracing it tightly.

Centuries have passed, and the book was sealed inside a room, on a house separated from the rest of the neighborhood.
“Day after day…” she thought. “Going to school then back home, I have to walk this road every single day, how boring?”
Orihara Asuka, a 16 year old bespectacled freshman in a nearby high school. She walks the neighborhood swaying her bag back and fort. She looks really tired and as she arrived at her final destination, the house which was far from the rest, she sighed.
“I’m bored, yet I – “
She enters the rusty gate and approached the door, she enters and said,
“I’m home!”
“Welcome back, I made your favorite for tonight’s dinner!” Yue, Asuka’s mother said as she smiled at her daughter. Asuka ignored most of what her mother said except the fact that it’s her favorite on tonight’s menu. She puts down her bag and took off her shoes, puts on her slippers and went straight upstairs to her room. She passed the said ‘forbidden’ door which was beside her room and suddenly, a voice said,
“Welcome home!”
Asuka was a bit stunned, her glasses fogged up and she laughed a bit.
“I’m hearing voices… I must be hungry!” then she went on to her room.

The room was dark; the only light was the small ray of the sun setting. Asuka walked in her room like she can see through the dark. She walked towards her desk, sat on her chair, removed her glasses and turned on the laptop. Her eyes were different from the others’ normal brown eyes, she seems to be heterochromatic, and her left eye was bloodshot while her right was just plain red. She keys in some words on her computer and then in the screen, dozens of words come up like credits on a movie then Asuka pressed enter and it stopped, everything disappeared and she sat back and relaxed as she watched the screen doing nothing. She smirked and then…

Downstairs, Kei, Asuka’s elder brother was watching his favorite series when suddenly in 1 second flat, it went static and it went back to normal. Kei stood up and looked up the ceiling.
“Asuka!” he yelled.
Back at her room, Asuka can’t stop laughing and then she stood up trying to stop.
“Yes, I’m sorry…” she said and then again, she sighed. “Hacking into a television station ain’t that fun anymore!” she said to herself.
“Life is so boring, isn’t that what you always think?” the voice said again. Asuka was, again, surprised at what she heard, she puts on her fogged up glasses and went out for dinner.

At the kitchen, Yue was done preparing the dinning table and called her children. Asuka and Kei enter and sit on their respective chairs and started eating. Asuka finished first; she drank her juice, stood up and left the kitchen. Yue looked worried and then when she was gonna go after Asuka, Kei stopped her and said,
“Let her be…”
“But –“

Asuka ascends the stairs and then when she reached the top, she stopped in front of the forbidden door with a sign saying, ‘Do not ENTER’ in it.
“Ever since I was a kid, this sign and this door never change. Putting up a sign like this makes you want to enter it more!”
She holds the knob and again, she heard the voice saying,
“Go ahead…”
Behind Asuka’s glasses, her left eye looked blank, while the right eye glow and without hesitation, she opens the door. Strong wind came rushing out of the room; black hands came out and held Asuka with strong grips. They pulled Asuka in then the door closed. The voice laughed a laughter that can be heard all over the neighborhood.
“At last, I now have you…”

Kei and Yue heard the loud laughter and it inflicted fear in the both of them, they hurried upstairs. The sign at the door was knocked off; Yue went to Asuka’s room but saw nothing in her daughter’s dark room…
“Asuka!” Kei yelled as he tried to open the door, but he couldn’t even make it budge. Yue approached Kei and pulled him aside, she kicks the door and said, angrily,
“Give my daughter back, you jerk!! Asuka!”

In the outskirts of town, inside another house, away from the neighborhood like the Orihara residence, an old woman coughed and called her son,
“Shizuka, it’s time…” she said calmly.
A middle aged man approached her and then bowed for respect.
“I know I just hope my daughter is doing well…” he said.

Back at Asuka’s house, Kei sits beside the forbidden door; his hair was messed up.
“Asuka! Asuka!!” Yue kept yelling.
“Mom, can you calm down for a bit? Asuka can take care of herself!” Kei said. Yue slowly looked at Kei and yelled, “Calm down? I won’t let this happen so easily!” she turned back to the door and banged at it.
“Give me back my daughter!”

Yue’s voice echoed, “Asuka… Give me back my daughter!”
“Mom?” Asuka mumbled. “It’s so dark; I can’t see a thing… Where am I?”
“Life is boring, am I right?” the voice asked.
“It’s the same thing everyday, who wouldn’t be bored…” she answered.
“Won’t it be better if you weren’t alive?”
“Huh?”
“If you disappear, then you won’t feel boredom…”
“I am bored, but still I – “
“You?”
“I don’t want to – wait a minute, who are you?”
The voice didn’t answer and then a warm light illuminates the dark room showing its interior. Asuka looked for her glasses, put it on and brushed some dirt of her clothes. She stood up and looked around, she sees the door but she ignored it, she looked at the desk and saw a book. She approached the desk and took the book, she looked at its cover and looked at its spine and said,
“No title?”
She took a look at the cover once again; it’s a western style book, unlike the Japanese type book that goes from left to right. She noticed a shallow hole, and then thought, “Must be the key hole, but, where is the key?” she looked at the desk as her finger played with the lock and then, suddenly…
“Ouch!” something pricked Asuka’s finger, the blood stayed on a sharp metal on the shallow hole and then the book unlocks. Surprised, Asuka opened the book slowly; she scanned the book for contents, just weird writings on it.
“What’s this?” she asked.
“Thank you, my dearest…” the voice said and from the open book, wind blew out and around Asuka, she closed her eyes and as the strong wind turned into a gentle breeze, she opened them. The book at hand disappeared, she looked around for it and as she turned around, she bumped into someone, to her surprise, she was not alone…
“You changed!” the man said.
Slowly, Asuka looked up seeing an English gentleman wearing 18th century clothes. Behind her glasses, Asuka looked scared. The man raised his hand and removed her glasses. She looked scared but suddenly gained her confidence. She pushed back the unknown man and said, angrily,
“Who the heck are you?!”
The man, pushed back by Asuka’s hands, smirked and said, “Finally, I found you, yet you don’t accept me, how rude…” He came close to Asuka and caressed Asuka’s forehead to her right eye, Asuka was shaking as she stepped back and the man transformed into a boy of her age.
“I don’t want to ask again?! Who are you? What are you?!”
“You’re quite bossy!”
“Shut up!”
“Return it!” he said and he took a step forward. “My immortality…” he whispered to Asuka’s ear. Asuka got surprised at what he did then she stepped to her left and ran straight to the door. The man followed her, pulled her hair and threw her on a chair. The man held the arm rests and his face came close to Asuka’s. She pulled her head back, away from his.
“I don’t have what you want!” she said.
“Yes you do… I can feel it in you! That right eye of yours, it’s mine!” he replied.
“What do you mean?”
“Simple, your eye holds my immortality!”
Asuka’s anger got worse and it caused her to punch the man’s stomach. He clutches in pain and said, “How uncute?!”
Asuka got a chance to get away. She ran straight to the door which leads to a staircase, she scurried down and opened the door at the end and found her mother and her brother waiting for her! Yue approached her daughter and hugged her. Asuka, who was catching her breathe pushed her mother away and turned around to close the door but to her surprise and to her mother’s and brother’s too, the man got to her really fast.
“You can’t run, A-su-ka…”

Kei was surprised at the man who was behind his younger sister. He looked really angry at Asuka.
“You!” Kei called. The man looked at him and just ignored him.
“Damn you!” Kei ran and strikes a punch at the man but was stopped by Asuka. Unconsciously, she moved and protected him from her brother.
“Asuka, why?” Kei asked.
Asuka got to her senses and looked at Kei.
“What happened?” she asked.
Yue approached the scary man with a smiling face and raised her hand in front of his neck and grabbed something. The man looked confused at what she’s doing but suddenly, in front of him, chains started to appear, link by link it slithers on Yue’s arm. The man smiled and then he held something on his neck, a collar started to appear. Yue pulled the chain and the man got pulled as well.
“Do you think I’m dog?” he asked.
Yue didn’t answer then turned to Asuka. She held her daughter’s right arm and then the chain started to move to the free arm of Asuka. The chain coiled itself on Asuka’s right arm.
“What is this?” she asked.
“I can’t reseal this Death God, but at least the remaining seal of Haruka will help you tame him! And since you have what he wants!”
“Don’t say her name!” the man said.
“Okay!! But you will hear it again, someday!”
“What do you mean by that?” Kei asked.
“Asuka is not heterochromatic; her right eye has this guy’s life!” Yue explained.
“So you know!” the man said.
“You’re quite an obedient and patient dog; you’re already taken in by my daughter!”
“I’m not a dog! Anyway, it’s alright, as you can see, the chain, it’s too short! It won’t get long, especially when you don’t even know the name of the one you tamed.” He said proudly.
Asuka pulled the chain and the Death God follows.
“What? Don’t play with that!”
“Huh? What were you saying? Damn Death God, scaring me earlier!” Asuka complained as she pulled and pulled the chain making the Death God follow her.
“That hurts! Take this!” the Death God pulled his head back making Asuka follow and he pulled the chain close to him making her land on his chest.
“Damn you!” she shouted and ran downstairs pulling the Death God to his knees, his face on the floor. He stood up and said,
“You’re strong, how uncute!”
“What’s your name?” Asuka asked.
“I won’t tell!” he answered.
“Then dogs with no name must be named. I’ll give you one!’
“That’s impossible, it won’t work!”
Asuka looked surprised at something then she looked at the Death God.
“You can only guess my name!” he kept on blabbing.
“Shiki… From now on, you’ll be Shiki!” Asuka exclaimed.
The Death God was surprised then the chain disappeared. Yue and Kei went down and Yue said, “Seems like it worked.”
“No, no… It’s impossible!”
“I can still feel the chain!” Asuka complained.
“Tell me!” the Death God held Asuka’s shoulders and asked, “How did you know my name?!”
“That was your name? Well, I guess the voices I kept hearing are quite useful!”
“Voices?” the three asked.
“Yes, I kept hearing a voice when I pass that door, it’s probably Shiki’s, then another one is a woman’s voice…”
“A woman’s voice?” Kei was really confused.
“Haruka…” Yue said.
“Stop saying that name!” Shiki shouted.
“Don’t shout doggy!” Asuka mumbled.
“You don’t seem to remember her; she really looked like Asuka you know! As the spirits told me… That’s because Asuka is Haruka’s reincarnation! You must hate my daughter now?”
“I can’t hate Haruka or Asuka…” Shiki said softly.
“Shiki, go get my glasses!” Asuka ordered.
“What the heck are you saying?” Shiki replied.
“Hmm… I thought it would be a master-servant thingy, this chain I mean…”
“Hah! You wish!” Shiki exclaimed.
Asuka just looked the way she does and went upstairs. “Good night!” she said. Shiki follows her and he too, said, “Good night!”
Kei pulled him down and asked, “Where do you think you’re going?”
“I have to be beside her!” Shiki answered.
“Why?”
“Well, I have to protect my immortality! It’s not only me who wants it! Plus, I don’t sleep, the least I can do is sit beside her!”
“The least?”
“Well, if you want me to sleep with her, then I would!”
“Damn you!” Kei was furious.
“I’m just joking around, honestly speaking, I have to be beside her!” he said seriously. Kei let Shiki go to Asuka’s room and when he entered, Asuka was getting ready to sleep. Shiki sat on Asuka’s desk and she just ignored him.
“Good night…” Shiki said.
“I know!” Asuka replied and lay on her bed. She closed her eyes and entered her dream world!

The next morning, Asuka walked to school, beside her, Shiki who has been following her, wearing the same outfit as last night’s. Asuka looked as if she hasn’t had a wink of sleep.
“You’re not allowed at school…” Asuka said.
“Don’t worry!” Shiki replied.
“Who’s worrying?” she blurted.
Shiki just smiled and stopped in front of the school gate as Asuka enters. He waved his hand, other students whisper to each other, gossiping about Asuka.

The bell rang; everyone has already entered their classrooms. In Asuka’s classroom, Shiki’s a new student. Asuka looked away, out at the window beside her as the teacher wrote Shiki’s name on the board.
“Nikaido Shiki, nice to meet you all!” he said cheerfully.
Some female students blush at the site of him while other’s gossip saying,
“Isn’t he with Orihara earlier?” one of the students said.
“He must be her bodyguard!” the other said.
“He’s too handsome for that geek hacker, Orihara!”
A girl beside Asuka, a pinked haired girl with pink eyes turned to her and said, “Asuka… He’s delicious! I want him!!” Kujou Anju, Asuka’s only friend at school, well, everyone doubts their friendship. Asuka looked back at Anju and looked pissed at her.
“Okay… You can sit on the chair behind that eye glassed girl’s chair!” the teacher said, pointing at Asuka.
“Alright, he’s close!!” Anju exclaimed.
“I wouldn’t get my hopes up, if I were you…” Asuka said.
“Why?”
Shiki walked towards his chair and saw Anju talking to Asuka, he looked at her and as she smiled, he looked away at Asuka and smiled at her. Shiki passed the two and sat on his chair.
“Stupid, annoying shinigami…” Asuka mumbled.
“Asuka, you know him?” Anju asked.
Asuka just nodded and looked back at the window.
“Miss Orihara, class is about to start, pay attention!”
“Yes ma’am…”

The bell rang, the mark that it’s lunch break. The teacher left, some took out their lunch boxes, others went out for the cafeteria. Asuka took out her laptop and some rice balls. She turned on the laptop, opened a rice ball and eats.
“Don’t you eat anything that’s more nutritional?” Shiki asked.
Asuka kept her silence, waiting for the computer to turn on completely. Shiki tried to get some of Asuka’s rice balls but was stopped by Asuka herself.
“Go to the cafeteria, and buy your self some!” she said.
“I have no money!” he replied.
“You’re so close to each other!” Anju said.
“I’m staying at her place!” Shiki said and pulled his hand along with a rice ball.
“Hey!” Asuka yelled as she tried to take back the stolen rice ball.
“You are?” Shiki asked with the rice ball in his mouth.
“Kujou Anju…”
Asuka gave up and finished her remaining rice balls. Anju looked at what Asuka’s doing and then Asuka looked outside.

On a tree besides the school building, two hooded men watched Asuka.
“So she’s the vessel of the great King of whatever’s power…” one said.
“That king you’re talking about is just a legendary death God who’s powerful enough to fight with the real Gods.” The other replied.
“That girl’s kinda cute!”
“Your taste in women sucks! I’ll try out that death God later…”
“Do what you want; I’ll have that girl soon!”

That afternoon, class dismissal, Asuka and Shiki walked home. With the sight of the sun setting, a hooded man blocked the view and approached them. Shiki stopped and pulled Asuka behind.
“Who are you?” he asked.
The man just smiled and pulled out a huge sword.
“I’m here for that girl!” the man replied.
“What? Why me, again?” Asuka asked.
“Their after your eyes, my power, you idiot! Step back!” Shiki said and then ran towards the mysterious man. He strikes a punch which was blocked by the man’s huge sword and pushed Shiki away.
“What’s with that? You’re really weak to be a legend!”
Asuka stood there, watching Shiki getting beat up, when suddenly she felt a splitting headache. She kneeled down, held her right side forehead and then her glasses fell down. She screamed in pain, holding her head, her right eye glows furiously.
“Shiki!” she called. “It hurts!! My eye!!” she kept on screaming.
“What the heck? Not now!!” Shiki pushed the man away and ran towards Asuka. He knelt in front of the crying Asuka then she stopped, looked at Shiki and said, “Are you trying to kill yourself?” It sounded as if two people are talking, one was Asuka’s voice, another, a familiar one. “Stand up!” she ordered.
“Damn it, that voice!” Shiki had no choice but to stand up.
“Protect me!” Asuka said and then she stood up as well and took a step back. A ray of light shines in front of her and then something starts to appear. Asuka grabbed it and Shiki looked surprised.
“Don’t get angry at her, I’m just here to guide her.” The familiar voice said.
“That’s my scythe!” Shiki said.
Asuka smiled and handed it to Shiki.
“Now, show me your strength!” she ordered.
